It's a new semester and I plan on bringing a lot of great stuff to my show on WGUR that will hopefully be productive to my show The Metro. I think I should add "keep this blog alive" as one of my new year's resolutions along with going to class more & saving as much money as possible so I can waste it all ridiculous trips to Chicago for Harry Potter nerdism and New York City to see Daniel Radcliffe blind some horses and get his kit off. Good times to be had by all this year, believe me.

Earlier in December I was told that WGUR 88.9 is going to be streaming online this semester so get excited! As for my show I've now upgraded to a whopping two shows a week and will now be playing all my ridiculous indie music on Tuesdays & Thursdays from 6-7pm EST (I think. . . I honest to god can't remember what time slot I signed up for so it'll be a surprise to both you and I).

Anyways, since the radio station isn't really being aired right now with everyone away for the holidays I can't really make any posts about any recent shows but why not my favourite songs of 2007? y/n? I mean, I know Pitchfork did their little shindig that had some people up in arms and I don't even want to freaking talk about how utterly mental the Rolling Stones list is but here are just 35 songs that made my 2007 so musically fantastical in oh so many ways.

My Top 35 Tracks of 2007

35. This band may not have a handful of albums under their belt or years and years of experience but they are the next big thing in America. Hailing from Austin, Texas, Voxtrot has been making music news since they hit the scene back in early 2006 when they released their Mothers, Sisters, Daughters & Wives EP after only mainly selling out stores in Austin since 2003. Not only are the lyrics absolutely mesmerizing in each song but they have a sound to them that one can't help get into. After touring with the Arctic Monkey on their American tour last summer and the release of their self-titled album back in May, you can bloody well count on these guys making more news than they all ready have.

Voxtrot -- Firecracker [mp3]
Voxtrot -- Raised By Wolves [mp3]
Voxtrot -- The Start of Something [mp3]

If you have any questions, suggestions, comments, etc. please leave them here or direct them to my email.

hey, we could break the bed without broken hearts ::

Well, this is a blog. For my radio show which basically features loads of music that is so disgustingly indie/punk rock that you would think I'm striving to be the next NME or something. But seriously, after receiving a few comments from people asking me about the songs I have played on my radio shows this past month I decided to throw this little blog together to keep track of what I play and how you yourself can get your hands on the music as well.

For now I'm just going to be posting playlists of my shows as well as some free downloads, music reviews and anything having to do with my radio show in general...which I still haven't named. Seeing as this blog is named "Pass the Metro" after my favorite Rakes song I'm thinking possibly something along those lines...? Ah, we'll have to see.

October 17, 2007 show

Fiction Plane -- Cold Water Symmetry
White Rabbits -- The Plot [download mp3]
The Cinematics -- Keep Forgetting [download mp3]
Radiohead -- Jigsaw Falling Into Place
Bloc Party -- Hero
The Beta Band -- Assessment
The Clash -- This Is Radio Clash
Led Zeppelin -- The Ocean
Guster -- Two Points For Honesty
Ocean Colour Scene -- Hundred Mile High City [download mp3]
Stars -- Take Me to the Riot
Joy Division -- Lover Will Tear Us Apart
Jimmy Eat World -- Polaris
Pela -- Lost to the Lonesome [download mp3]

Featured Band of the Show

Pela

Pela is a band I recently found out about after much talk of them on going on across the numerous music blogs around the internet. Needless to say, this NYC rock band is definitely worth checking out. With their debut album Anytown Graffiti it is clear that they certainly have a promising future ahead of them. "Pela has toured ambitiously in America over the past 2 years, playing in any room that would have them, and rewarding audiences with a passionate, and occasionally explosive, live show. Along the way they have shared stages with The Flaming Lips, Norah Jones, Sleater-Kinney, Mission of Burma, Devendra Banhart, The National, The Decemberists, Gomez, Rainer Maria, and others, earning a devoted and passionate following in the process." Nearly every song on this album is abusive-repeat worthy. I honestly can't say exactly why I love this band's sound so much but it's absolutely addicting. Kind of like a mix between Stellastarr* meets The Killers with a hint of Arcade Fire and, really, that's an A+ mix if I ever saw one.

To check out more about this band and their history check out their blog here.

Pela -- Trouble With River Cities [mp3]

No playlist for October 24th seeing as I wasn't able to host my show that night but hopefully next week that won't be happening again!

If you have any questions, suggestions, comments, etc. please leave them here or direct them to my email.
